EuropaSil is an advanced formulation based on silver stabilised hydrogen peroxide. The oxidising agent used in EuropaSil is hydrogen peroxide, which is bonded with stabilising agents to form a complex sanitising solution that has a wide range of applications where the effective control of pathogens is essential.

EuropaSil delivers a long-lasting effect which is ensured by the addition of silver which acts as a catalyst in trace amounts. The bactericidal effect of the silver is based on the action of mono-valent silver ions which bind very firmly to bacterial proteins using a covalent or coordinate bond, which inactivates or precipitates these.

EuropaSil is a solution of hydrogen peroxide which is stabilised using a specially formulated silver based chemistry. The stabilisation process is unique and makes EuropaSil a powerful disinfectant that provides a very wide spectrum of biocidal activity. Independent testing has shown that EuropaSil is a highly effective bactericide, virucide, sporicide, fungicide, algaecide and amoebicide.

EuropaSil should never be confused with normal hydrogen peroxide! Here is why:

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE AS A DISINFECTANT

Hydrogen peroxide is potentially a great biocide. It is a stronger and more effective oxidising agent than chlorine and chlorine dioxide. It is less toxic and breaks down into water and oxygen.

There are downsides to normal hydrogen peroxide however:

• It reacts with Catalase. Catalase is a protein which bacteria emit as a shield to protect themselves from hydrogen peroxide. Different types of bacteria emit different amounts of The legionella bacterium emits low levels of catalase and is relatively easy to kill with the correct strength of Hydrogen Peroxide, whereas the Pseudomonas bacterium emits high levels of catalase making it more difficult to kill.
• Normal hydrogen peroxide is fairly unstable causing it to be effective for very short periods of time, particularly when used as a water disinfectant.
• The effectiveness of normal hydrogen peroxide is compromised by high hot water

SILVER AS A DISINFECTANT

The weak disinfecting properties of silver have been known since Roman times. The metal acts as a biostat rather than a biocide. – It stops bacteria breeding rather than killing them; Silver does react with protein however and therefore has a role to play in removing catalase.

Hydrogen peroxide and silver on their own are relatively poor disinfectants. So how do they become a great disinfectant when put together?

It has been known for some time that the addition of small amounts of metals to hydrogen peroxide can make disproportionate changes to the efficacy of the peroxide. The way in which the hydrogen peroxide and
